Blair Lamar’s In-Between private view exhibition will take place at L!FE Shoreditch on 11 June 2013 from 6 to 9 pm. The free exhibition will feature the work of American Blair Lamar, a fine arts painter in London who specialises in abstract-figuration works (where shape, colour, and human form become one).

Situated on East London’s iconic Brick Lane, L!FE Shoreditch is an exclusive space with a unique offer: there is nowhere else in London where food, yoga, art and music sit side by side. L!FE Shoreditch is creating an artistic hub that will provide artists with an alternative space to show their works and bring art into everyday life.
Lamar is an up-and-coming painter whose In-Between works are inspired by Klimt and Schiele's twisted form and skeletal drawings. She has developed her own style based on her advanced study of colours (colour theory). Through her paintings, Lamar explores the point where shape, colour and human form become one. By using limited palettes to bring these elements together, a pattern and harmony flows through each of her pieces.

“Using oils for their vibrancy and mixing qualities, I carry out a series of tests to find an intriguing palette of just three colours,” Lamar says. “This becomes the foundation to create real poetry on canvas. I start by painting figures, some playing out dynamic poses found in yoga, and then paint shapes of colour that flow between the figures and surrounding space, making and breaking patterns. The viewer discovers the figurative composition and then goes beyond that discovery – seeing unintended composition. You have to see it to appreciate it.”

Lamar works out of Studio 43 at Southwark Studios in South East London. She is also curator and art director for Hatched Gallery, an artist-led pop art gallery. Lamar graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in the U.S. in 2008. Lamar is also a photographer and drawing instructor.
