Painting, sculpture, photography and animation by three East London artists.
The Long Memory: traces of past lives and industries in London and its eastern lands. An exhibition of responses to an ever-changing habitat, gleaned from urban wanderings and perambulations. From the lower reaches of the Thames at Gravesend and Tilbury, following the tide upstream and into a city of gleaming crystal. As the river breathes out, derelict histories are revealed along its exposed foreshore, in the shadow of the new builds redefining the cityscape. With a shared interest in the history and development of London and its environs, artists Benjamin Fox, Richard King and James Self seek to invoke the capital’s past lives, while engaging with its modern guises.
One or more of the artists will be present at the gallery during weekend opening hours. Benjamin Fox will bring artefacts to explain and handle.
