Latvian Culture Day in London 2013

‘’LATVIAN CULTURE DAY IN LONDON 2013’’

On Saturday 15. June, you are invited to a feast of Latvian culture! The Association of Latvian Students in the United Kingdom together with the Latvian National Council in Great Britain have devised and created an afternoon of Latvian culture in the very heart of London, on the stage of Victoria Embankment Gardens, alongside the Thames just by Embankment underground station.

The programme will begin at 5.00 p.m. with an introduction by HE the Latvian Ambassador in the UK, which will be followed by a kaleidoscope of Latvian songs and dances interspersed with video clips from previous Latvian Song and Dance Festivals on huge screens. While watching the event, you will be able to taste Latvian delicacies, find information about Latvia, about its capital Riga – European Capital of Culture in 2014 – and buy examples of Latvian arts and crafts at nearby stalls. The participants include the London Latvian Choir, Latvian dance groups „London dances” and „Salinieki”, and the folklore ensembles „Zapte” and „Austrumkalns”. Their performances reflect the various cultural activities of Latvians in London and the great love they show for their country’s traditions.

The organisers hope that the information and the programme of Latvian song and dance will reach a large number of Londoners – natives and incomers! – and give a clearer picture of Latvia as a wonderful place to visit, particularly in 2014!
