Is the secret of human behaviour inside our skulls?

Men read maps better, but women read emotions - some brain scientists say. Is the secret of human behaviour inside our skulls? Can neuroscience explain why Timandra thinks like a bloke?

Preview of a new Edinburgh Fringe show.

Timandra started doing comedy about science because she got bored telling jokes about beer, sex, & the differences between men and women. Now science has brought her full circle. If MRI scans show we have different brains, do we also have different ideas, feelings, desires?

Her previous shows, Your Days Are Numbered & Humans V Nature (with Matt Parker) took a rigorous but irreverent look at statistics, public health & engineering. Now she’s back to give the same treatment to neuroscience, with music, graphs & live experiments on the audience.

"There is nothing much wrong with the science,” says the show’s Neuroscientist, Martin Coath of The Cognition Institute, Plymouth University. " But the results often don't show what people say they do. Statistically-significant-in-rats & important-in-human-society are two quite different things"

You'll never look at your anterior cingulate cortex the same way again. Or a map.
