Swedish Cultural Exhibition

The European Capital of Culture 2014 has recently been named as the northern Swedish city of Umeå – the most northerly city ever to have received that distinction.

To celebrate, Umeå is holding a two day experiential exhibition on the Southbank, dedicated to all things northern Swedish. The exhibition will feature art installations, musical performances, ice-sculpture and cutting edge Swedish design, as well as teaching visitors more about the unique culture of the Sami, Europe’s only indigenous people, who live in the Umeå region.

Visitors will be able to meet genuine Sami people, try some of their handicrafts and discover their storytelling prowess first-hand. Meanwhile, night owls will enjoy a stunning light show recreating the Northern Lights from midnight to 6 am on both days.
