Remembrance Day - For One Night Only
Authentic, gritty and sometimes very funny, this play opens our eyes to the unseen wounds of war - the ones in our minds.
Presented for one night only on Remembrance Day, 11 November, this special performance by Shadow Road Productions is in aid of the armed forces mental health charity Combat Stress.
Taking its' title from First World War poet Siegfried Sassoon, Dreams from the Pit follows three soldiers, Razor, Jacko and Sully, as they are deployed together in Afghanistan. Life in 'Afghan' is tough, but for some, the journey back to civilian life is even harder.
Based on numerous interviews with veterans, members of the armed forces and their families, the play is a contemporary insight into the increasing incidence of mental trauma among veterans and the impact it has on those around them.
Dreams from the Pit, written and directed by Emma King-Farlow, will be performed by a volunteer professional cast, many of whom have connections with the armed forces. This is King-Farlow's fourth Remembrance Day play for Combat Stress.
Following the performance, BBC presenter Mike Williams will host a panel of special guests to discuss issues raised in the play. All welcome.
