An exhibition of hybrid photographic and sculptural works by Basel-based artist Clare Kenny; the gallery's inaugural exhibition in the new ground floor premises at 183-185 Bermondsey Street, London.

Often using photographic imagery as a means of navigation or a strategy to inform a three-dimensional piece, Kenny explores possible slippages between materiality and subject matter. She creates work that is a hybrid of photography and sculpture.

Form and content reflect a concern with the nebulous divide between fact and fiction. Real and fabricated memories of the artist's life are recorded and fed into the images and materials that comprise each work. Images are manipulated in stages, often abstracting or duplicating details in an attempt to reveal new meaning or question ideas on authenticity.

Following her recent residency in Paris at Cite des Artes, her solo show at Vitrine will be shaped around new work developed over this period and since, and existing works.

Clare Kenny (born. 1976, Manchester, UK) studied her BA at Chelsea School of Art London and MA at HSLU Luzern, Switzerland, and has been living and working in Basel, Switzerland for the last five years. She has had solo shows, amongst others, at Bureau Gallery, Manchester, UK (2013), DOLL espace d'art contemporain, Lausanne (2012), Gisele Linder Galerie, Basel (2011) and ABBT Projects, Zurich (2011). Recent group shows include Kunsthaus Palazzo, Liestal (2013); SAKS Gallery, Geneva (2013); Von Bartha Garage, Basel (2012); Kunsthaus Baselland, Muttenz (2012); Ceri Hand Gallery, Liverpool (2011) and Coalmine Gallery, Winterthur (2011). She has twice been shortlisted for the Swiss Art Awards and shown with Gisele Linder at ARTBASEL and Artforum Berlin.
