PETA Managing Director Ingrid E Newkirk and special guest Sadie Frost will kick off PETA UK's 20th birthday celebration at a star-studded event at Kings Place on 17 November. Controversial, honest and always thought-provoking, Newkirk will share some electrifying thoughts about animals, our relationship with them and how that relationship can and should evolve.

Under Newkirk's leadership, PETA UK has convinced major department stores such as Selfridges and House of Fraser – and countless independent retailers, restaurants and catering groups – to remove foie gras from their shelves and menus; convinced high-street stores such as Topshop, Mango, H&M and Zara to declare themselves to be fur-free or exotic skins–free; ended painful shellfish toxicity tests on mice; campaigned for the ban on the sale of seal-fur products in the EU; convinced numerous councils to reject planning applications for new factory farms and provided millions of people with information about veganism, the skins industry, animals used in entertainment, companion-animal care and countless other issues.

Actor and fashion designer Sadie Frost will emcee the event. She starred in her first PETA advert in 2006. A long-time fur foe and vegetarian, Sadie posed nude for an anti-fur ad photographed by rock legend and fellow vegetarian Bryan Adams. Since then Sadie has appeared in a vegetarian testimonial with the organisation and was a judge in PETA's inaugural fashion awards, recognising the best cruelty-free contributions to the fashion world.
