Hot on the heels of its sold-out Gastronomica event, London’s most authentic Mexican restaurant, Mestizo in Camden, launches its 5th annual Mole Festival and traditional Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebrations from 26 October – 2 November 2013.

The highlight of the festivities is the Mole and Mezcal Dinner on 30 October where diners will be introduced to a selection of Mexico’s famous chocolate and chilli infused Mole dishes, paired with some of the finest artisanal Mezcals in the world. The menu includes 'Tostada de Chapulines con Aguacate’ – a unique dish featuring grasshoppers and avocado! £35.00 per person for three courses including Mezcal.

Until 2 November the restaurant will be showcasing a wide range of mole recipes from the different regions of Mexico which each have a unique way of preparing and serving the dish. These include the Mole De Olla - a beef stew with corn dumplings served with onion, coriander, chillies, lime and warmed tortillas; the Gualjolote En Mole Poblano (originally from Puebla City), which is made with turkey and is thought to be the most popular version of the dish. This recipe is also traditionally the cause of the first major argument for any newlywed couple when it is mentioned that ‘My mother’s mole is better than yours’! It includes up to 40 ingredients including chillies, nuts, seeds, spices, herbs and of course chocolate.

Also available will be the Guajolote En Mole Negro, considered the most difficult of all the moles to produce due to the volume of ingredients it requires, as well as moles served with lamb shank and cutlets, duck, chicken, pork, spare ribs, king prawns and haddock.

Throughout the week Mestizo will be celebrating the Day of The Dead Festival by paying homage to its dearly departed with its Dia de Los Muertos Altar which takes pride of place in the restaurant and where favourite foods, drink and mementos are placed in tribute.

To bring (even more) colour to the restaurant during the week, Mestizo will also be hosting a Mexican Cultural Market from 6pm-10pm each night where diners can purchase authentic Mexican jewellery, clothes and arts & crafts.

Advanced booking (and payment) for the Mole and Mezcal Dinner is essential.
