This glossy portrayal of America at the height of the civil rights struggle won Octavia Spencer the Best Supporting Actress Award for her role as Minny, the outspoken maid in 1960s Mississippi. Based on Kathryn Stockett’s novel, The Help and its mockery of the town’s leisured, coiffured Southern Belles is delicious.
