Having spent a week living and working together in a rural retreat, this Who’s Who of the British folk scene will perform newly written music and songs inspired by the Elizabethan age.

The Elizabethan Session is a joint commission between Folk by the Oak – the annual music festival based at Hatfield House in Hertfordshire, the childhood home of Queen Elizabeth I – and the English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS).

As well as using material and history, stories, myths, characters and legends relating to the 16th century period, the musicians will draw inspiration from the role that Hatfield House played in the Queen’s life. Legend has it that Elizabeth was told of her ascension to the throne underneath the large oak tree in the grounds.

Featuring: Martin Simpson, Nancy Kerr, Jim Moray, Bella Hardy, John Smith, Hannah James, Rachel Newton and Emily Askew
