In this illustrated talk, award-winning historian and biographer Richard Holmes gives a lively account of the extraordinary late 18th-century revolution in the physical sciences – notably in the fields of astronomy, chemistry, geographical exploration and aerostation (ballooning !) – and traces their surprising metaphysical impact on the Romantic writers of the day, including Coleridge, Mary Shelley, John Keats and Lord Byron.
The lecture is supported in memory of Naseeb Shaheen
