A free composition on Chekhov’s stories by Rawmatterial

A monk, an orchard, daring designs and wooden floors....
Chekhov’s joyful Black Monk and dark Butterfly, performed for the first time in the UK, will appear in the intimate warmth of the unexpected Holborn Workshop.

Rawmatterial’s director Maria Gaitanidi and actress Jarrah Newman will explore the rawness of the text, the space and themselves through a changing composition. The five evenings will all be different to each other, as nothing will be learnt by heart. The performance is open to a limited audience only so make sure you book quickly.

‘I found it an incredibly compelling performance and was totally engaged. Rather than wondering “why that phrasing” “what’s the hidden meaning of that word” I could experience it on a purely visceral level.’ Cathy, audience member, Tauris->< --> City – Crossbred Dialogues, May 2012

‘The Holborn Workshop is a unique retail space curated by The Holborn Magazine and designed by Green Tea Architects. The shop, cafe, bar & event space is a joint project of Morgan Hamilton-Griffin and Julia Wyatt, a couple who have brought together their joint passions for good design and ethical practice. We have brought together a collection of companies, artisans and makers who we admire into an Artisans Collective to celebrate great design and quality production.’
