6.30pm Doors open
7.30pm Talk by Sam Norman about a 3 month kayak journey down the Mississippi

Sam Norman left University in 2012 and journeyed like most other rugby playing graduates with a 2:2 into recruitment. The only thing that made the monotony of back to back cold calls bearable was the knowledge that in 10 months time, he and two mates were embarking on a 2300 mile expedition to kayak the length Mississippi River. Having dabbled with adventure jumping out of planes, kayaking, sailing and diving he was accustomed with being out of his comfort zone but always had a warm bed and home to go back too, the Mississippi was a little different. Sam is going to talk to us about his experiences down the Mississippi River in the Summer of 2013

8.15pm Talk by Ray Thompson from Imperial College about his journey across Antarctica

An Antarctic journey of 4,000 km in 22 days. The primary goal was to take wheeled vehicles coast to coast and back, using two modified Ford econoline 6 wheel drive trucks. The additional task was to take a bio-fuelled vehicle to the South Pole - this was attempted with the Winston Wong BIV (Bio Inspired Vehicle) driving it from Union Glacier to the South Pole using E85 bio fuel.

Ray Thompson is a Consultant to IBME and also works with Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub on some very special projects looking at Rapid prototyping methods in medical environments: 'bio printing'. He started out as an apprentice, worked as an engineer then came to work at Imperial College, here he got to design and engineer all manner of experiments/projects, ranging from wind turbines to mobile phones to cool stuff for the international space station - and of course bio fuel vehicles to cross Antarctica!

9 pm Meet fellow adventurers – a bar full of people who have done interesting stuff or are looking to do something exciting.

Drinks will be held in a private bar DOWNSTAIRS at The Spectator
