Songs have been referred to as the 'Soul' of liberation movements. All over the world 'freedom songs' have provided the spirit and inspiration to meet the challenges of overthrowing an oppressor, and a vehicle to allow often censored sentiments to spread throughout a nation and forge group unity.

Culturepot will showcase a medley of freedom songs from around the world against Afro-Beat rhythms led by Dele Sosimi. Selected songs from Bangladesh, India, South Africa, Jamica, and Yoruba songs from Nigeria will be brought to the stage to embrace freedom and showcase the power of music as an universal language.

It may be interesting to note that Franklin D Roosevelt when he addressed the United States Congress before the second World War spoke of a future world founded on what he called ‘four essential human freedoms’.
The first is freedom of speech and expression - everywhere in the world. The second is freedom of every person to worship God in their own way - everywhere in the world. The third is freedom from want – meaning an economic understanding which will secure a nation’s inhabitants a healthy peaceful life - everywhere in the world. The fourth is freedom from fear – which translates to a worldwide reduction of armaments to such a point and in such a thorough fashion that no nation will be in a position to commit an act of physical aggression against any neighbour - anywhere in the world.

While celebrating the spirit of freedom against the backdrop of the freedom struggle and Independence of Bangladesh in 1971, Culturepot Global along with Richmix aims to “push forward all the frontiers of freedom, being conscious that progress on one depends and reinforces progress on the others”. We aim to raise and listen to the many voices of freedom - voices which unite and not divide nations, voices which enrich the mind and touch the soul.
