This March, Oval Space in East London will launch its inaugural series of comedy nights, adding another cultural string to its bow. Already well known for its monthly cinema nights, fashion marketplace and craft beer festivals, Oval Space has teamed up with comedian Jon Levene to bring the newest comedy experience to London
People can expect the usual Oval Space service with comfy couches, wing back chairs , heated terraces and a fine offering of food and drink. Food is being provided by exciting new cafe Plump while a wide selection of drinks will be available throughout the night.
Starting on Monday 31 March, the monthly event will showcase hot new talent from London’s comedy circuit. Curated by comedian Jon Levene, the launch night will feature some of the best and brightest acts London has to offer, including headliner Dave Fulton who has graced such TV shows as Stand up for the Week and Never Mind the Buzzcocks, who "represents the tough talking, risk-taking school of yankee comics,........He's intelligent, remarkably relaxed on stage and clearly out to create a bit of mischief."
Time Out-London
Joining him will be MC for the evening, Jessica Fostekew, a regular face in comedy clubs across the world and writer for Stand Up For The Week and Radio 4's News Quiz, Newsjack and Dilemma. Fostekew has been tour support for Terry Alderton and Micky Flanagan, and her easy charm and friendly style are the perfect indicators for how comedy at Oval Space will run.

Also on the bill are Dane Baptiste, a newly arrived revelation on the comedy landscape who has appeared on BBC3's Comedy Marathon, Jongleurs Live and written for CBBC’s The Johnny and Inel Show; Nathan Cassidy, an award-winning playwright who authored The Cure for the Common Cold and an established stand-up whose debut solo show in 2010 sold out at the Leicester, Brighton, London and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals; and Junior Booker, hotly tipped for comedy greatness.

Rounding up the night is the man behind Oval Space Comedy, Jon Levene. Jon began stand-up in Australia and quickly established himself as a headline act and MC. It wasn’t long before he was appearing on the Comedy Channel, Nova Radio and RRR radio. Jon has written for Beat Magazine as well as writing and performing in The Intermissionary Position, a six-part sketch comedy show that aired on Australia’s Ch31.
The future for Oval Space comedy is bright, with the monthly Monday gigs running into the summer and outdoor shows and planned on the terrace on warm evenings as well as Edinburgh preview shows later this year.
