8:30pm This gig, a continuation of our Musician XChange programme, features the excellent Swedish/Hungarian singer Claudia Campagnol with a jazz trio derived from some of the best UK players on the scene. Born in Hungary to parents who are both professional musicians (her father is a pianist her mother a singer), Claudia was clearly destined to become a performer of real quality. The whole family moved to Sweden when Claudia was a small child and by the age of 12 she could be seen “guesting” on her parents gigs in venues all around the country. After graduating from the University of Music in Malmoe, Claudia, appearing as Claudia Dancs, rapidly established herself as one of the leading singers of her generation. After several years of working in Sweden and around Europe, including Hungary where she still has strong ties, she settled in Copenhagen, Denmark where she met and married the Italian drummer Niclas Campagnol. After taking time out following the birth of her son, Claudia is once again establishing herself as a world class vocalist, her career going from strength to strength as she consistently delivers mature performances in a distinctive jazz style, while showcasing an impressive flair for improvisation. A multi-instrumentalist and composer as well as performer, her combination of jazz standards and original contemporary material have made her a favourite of audiences everywhere. Tonight she will be accompanied by the impressive UK rhythm section of pianist Tim Lapthorn, bassist Mick Hutton and drummer Winston Clifford, and look out for a Special Guest appearance from the 606 Club’s own Steve Rubie on flute.

"Claudia Campagnol…vocal Jazz of the highest calibre with international stardust” Jazzhus Montmartre, Copenhagen;
"Claudia Campagnol has a truly golden voice" Ystad Jazz Festival, Sweden; “Tim Lapthorn....a fluid and confident improviser with a deft touch” Jazzwise

This event is part of our ongoing “Musician XChange” programme, an initiative by the 606 Club to provide a platform for some of the finest Overseas musicians, in return for which the Club arranges for UK-based musicians to perform in the home country of the visiting artist. We would also like to thank Peter Pallai and the Budapest Jazz Club for their generous support.
