An exhibition of the sights, sounds and objects encountered by the Pole of Cold Expedition led by Felicity Aston (recipients of the 2013 Land Rover / RGS-IBG Bursary) as they chased winter across northern Europe and Siberia to the coldest inhabited place in the world.

Using material collected by the Pole of Cold Expedition team on their 35,000km journey in a Land Rover Defender, the exhibition focuses on winter as a geographical concept by exploring the social, cultural and physical implications of the season.

Sounds recorded on location at temperatures down to -59C are combined with stunning photography of the winter landscape and fascinating interviews from those living at the extremes of climate to communicate a sense of what ‘cold’ really means and to reveal the peculiarities of nature at subzero temperatures.

The exhibition blends adventure, geography and art to inspire a fresh look at winter and prompt visitors to re-evaluate their own attitude and lifestyles during the coldest months.
