With its 120 bin old world-orientated wine list, margaux is a magnet for oenophiles and more casual imbibers alike. Both will be delighted to learn that this vibrant South Kensington eatery is to launch an exciting new programme of wine events with two acclaimed domains from Champagne and California. On each occasion, a selection of fine vintages will be paired with a five course dinner specially created by head chef Xavier Vilamajo Castella.

On Tuesday 13th May margaux will welcome Rodolphe Frerejean Taittinger from champagne house Frerejean Frères. Coming from a family of renowned vintners, it was inevitable that the Frerejean Taittinger brothers would launch their own champagne. Their vineyards straddle the Côte des Blancs and the premier cru village of Grauves, and their wine is made from a delicate blend of 50% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Noir and 20% Meunier. Highlights of the evening will include an Extra Brut NV paired with seared foie gras, toasted brioche, pear, vanilla & port reduction and an opulent 2005 Cuvée des Hussards Blanc de Blancs, one of only 3,200 bottles drawn that year, to accompany Xavier’s delicious monkfish, clam & prawn stew.

Friday 20th June sees legendary winemaker Jim Clendenen, who in just 30 years has taken his Au Bon Climat winery from a tiny outpost in California’s Santa Barbara County to one of the world’s most respected labels, showcase five of his best loved wines. Among the treats in store are a 2010 Hildegard, a blend of Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Aligoté that promises to be the perfect accompaniment to Xavier’s bluefin tuna belly with cherry & pistachio crumble. The dinner will also compare Jim’s 2009 La Bauge Au-dessus and 2010 Pinot Noir with his 2011 Sandford & Benedict Pinot Noir, all of which are set to complement the main course of roast loin of lamb with white bean purée, quinoa & jus de rôti.

Both events will commence at 7.30pm and will be held in margaux’s private dining room, with its striking décor of original 1930s champagne riddling racks.

For reservations please call 0207 373 5753 or email [email protected]. Tickets for both events are priced at £95, inclusive of VAT and service charge.
