"Goundbreaking"

Helping create "the future" of theatre

"It's a local festival and it's nurturing local talent"

Finding "unheard voices"

After receiving over 60 submissions, the winners of Lambeth's new playwriting competition, First Draft, have now been chosen.

The judging panel included Royal Court Young Writer’s programme alumni Manjinder Virk and Joe Harbot, and published author and theatre director/producer Marina Caldarone.

The winners are Tara Alexis (NOT WHAT YOU SEE), Scott Pilkington (THE PRICE OF A HUMAN BEING IS £60), Jon Rowe (COMMUNITY NOT FOR SALE), Andy Ryan (AN OFSTED INSPECTION), Claude Starling (MACHU PICCHU), Mo (MOUSE AND LION), and Padraic Walsh (EVENING). The winner of the under 21's category is Tejal Rayamajhi (SUNNY).

This is an excellent opportunity for aspiring and emerging writers to showcase new work.

The selected plays will now be rehearsed with a professional cast and director and staged as part of the Lambeth Readers and writers Festival on 30th and 31st May 2014 in the new performance space at the Library Building, Clapham.

First Draft runs alongside a series of "dynamic, immediate and active" workshops that aim to encourage and help develop new writers.

First Draft is dedicated to creating "viable opportunities" for new playwrights.
