DANCE YOUR WAY TO A GREENER FUTURE

British Gas are bringing the world of sustainable energy to life with the creation of a specially commissioned, energy-generating dance floor, which will be installed at Westfield Stratford from 19th-22nd June. Schools, families and community groups will be able to show off their best moves on the British Gas Generation Green Energy Performance dance floor.

Made using innovative Pavegen technology, which harvests the wasted energy from footsteps to generate electricity, the dance floor will power a giant camera to capture images of the performers.

Diversity dance stars Jordan and Perri will be on hand on Thursday 19th June to perform and judge the finals of a national schools competition, which will see six schools from around the country – including two local London primaries - perform their best power routines. Three winning schools, chosen for their creativity and the amount of energy they generate, will receive an Energy Makeover worth up to £150,000 for their school.

Following a finale performance from Perri & Jordan at 4pm on the 19th June, the dance floor will be open to the public until 22nd June. Community groups and members of the public are invited to try out the technology and see if they can create enough energy to power the giant camera!

Perri & Jordan from Diversity said; “We’re really excited to judge the schools at the Generation Green Energy Performance and to have a go on the dance floor ourselves! Energy can seem like quite a hard subject, but using technology like this really brings it to life and makes it easier to understand.”

Abi Robins, Director of Corporate Responsibility Programmes at British Gas, said, “We want the Generation Green Energy Performance to inspire people of all ages to think about energy and energy saving in a different light, and we hope that members of the public come and try out the dance floor for themselves. We know that developing new technologies is key to the future of energy and we are committed to investing in sustainable energy solutions.”

The Generation Green Energy Performance forms part of British Gas’ ongoing commitment to inspire curiosity in young people and help bring energy to life. Last year, British Gas invested over £1.6 million installing energy saving equipment for schools through Generation Green, helping to save an estimated 400 tons of CO2 and saving the winning schools an estimated £100,000 on energy bills per annum.
