Discover the true African adventure of two gunboats, a tattooed grass skirt-wearing captain, and his intrepid chimp companion
Join us for a day of children’s activities inspired by the story of HMS Mimi and Toutou, two gunboats that travelled from Twickenham to Lake Tanganyika during the First World War.
Using documents and artefacts from our collection, you will explore the adventures these two boats had on their way to Africa and be inspired to create some original artwork!
Activities offered on the day include:
- A storytelling experience following our two boats on their adventures through Africa
- Make your own boat
- Design an outfit, fit for adventure
- Get involved in the creation of a sculpture, exploring the sites and scenes along the route our two boats took from Twickenham to Tanganyika
To allow us to manage numbers, please book on one of the 2 sessions available: either 10:00-12:00 or 12:30-14:30.
These activities have been created with children aged 5-11 in mind. However, younger and older brothers and sisters are very welcome.
