Join us for Indigenous Revival - a dedicated creative arts evening exploring & remembering indigenous peoples rights!

We're heading to Cafe 1001 in Shoreditch to discuss and explore this important topic.

"FROM HERE" (5m) - TARIQ NASIR

We'll be showcasing our latest film, "From Here", an experimental dance film exploring the occupation of indigenous people and their land. Directed by Let's All Be Free’s founder Tariq Nasir, the film is magnificently expressive and uses the cinematic mediums of dance and film to tell the story of a people’s connection to their land.

The film completed shooting in late July 2013 and enjoyed it’s US premiere on January 16th at LABF NC at the Full Frame Theatre (Centre for Documentary Studies). Why not check out our photos?

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS OF THE EVENING INCLUDE:

"ARE YOU FREE?" EXHIBITION

The first look at the "Are You Free?" exhibition - a series of portraits of local Londoners with an interest in indigenous peoples rights were asked the question: "What does being free mean to you?"

These portraits were shot all over London and included individuals from a variety of backgrounds; from human rights lawyers to playwright.

This exhibition is the first of many conversations as part of the "Are You Free?" campaign from Let's All Be Free.

TALK BY DR ALEXANDRA XANTHAKI, BRUNEL UNIVERSITY

A minority and indigenous peoples rights expert, Dr Alexandra Xanthaki from Brunel University will be joining us to talk about what she has learnt most from studying indigenous peoples rights.

Dr Xanthaki's monograph, "Indigenous Rights and United Nations Standards: Self-determination, Culture and Land (Cambridge University Press)", is considered a reference book on indigenous rights and international law.

In addition to indigenous rights, Alexandra also publishes on multiculturalism and cultural rights in international law.

SPOKEN WORD PERFORMANCE

Nick Mahoka will be performing a selection of his poetry, specially written for the event.

Nick recently won the Brunel African Poetry prize and has poems that appear in the The Poetry Review, Rialto, The Triquarterly Review and the Boston Review.
