Rebellious Dance from London’s Most Provocative Choreographers
East London Dance’s Weekender returns with a curated programme of thought-provoking dance, spoken word, workshops and debates.

Combining cutting-edge choreography with social and political ideas, exceptional breakthrough artists Sean Graham (Foreign Bodies Orchestra), Lee Griffiths (The Company), Duwane Taylor (Buckness Personified) and Sara Dos Santos (East London Youth Dance Company) present ground-breaking dance theatre works, raising debate on racial profiling, social conformity and gender.

A chance to see four formidable performances encompassing jazz, krump, contemporary and hip-hop sewn together by Caleb Femi (Roundhouse Poetry Slam champion 2015).

A Weekender ticket includes four formidable dance theatre shows and spoken word for only £12 (£10 concessions). Workshops sold separately.

Evening Programme
Race Tracks
By Sean Graham / Foreign Bodies Orchestra
A high-octane dance explosion tackling issues surrounding multiculturalism and identity displacement in Britain. Fusing dance, drama and spoken word, award-winning Sean Graham creates a humorous and dark sporting event for ethnicities – who will win British gold? Or is it fool’s gold?

Behind Every Man
By Lee Griffiths / The Company
It’s an issue that you have created! We’ve created! Feminist. Pro women. Strong women. All women. No women. One woman. One man. All men. Strong men. JUST men or Just WOMAN.

Conform to Rebel, Rebel to Conform
By Duwane Taylor / Buckness Personified
Rebellion is rejection; conformity is acceptance. What choice will be made?
A high-energy production from the UK’s leading krump dancer, choreographer and Artistic Director of Buckness Personified, Duwane Taylor.

Redemption
By Sara Dos Santos / East London Youth Dance Company
“Forgiveness is the key that unlocks the door or resentment and the handcuffs of hatred. It is a power that breaks the chains of bitterness and the shackles of selfishness.” Corrie ten Boom

The newly formed East London Youth Dance Company have been motivated to share their opinions on what they, as young people, find challenging about the society we live in. Focusing on the solution to these challenges, Redemption offers their unique perspective on what it means to struggle, surrender, forgive others and ourselves.

Physical Verse
