Kate Young is the writer of The Guardian's acclaimed column Baking Fiction. She has a passion for literature and passion for food. As a result she is either delving into books or into her pantry, challenging herself to create the perfect recipe for dishes that are referenced by famous authors in their novels.

She is currently working on her first book, a collection of over 100 recipes from children's literature. Fascinated by history, gastronomy and storytelling, Kate has been exploring London on foot for the past seven years.

On the 14th of May Kate will be giving a tour of the picturesque London area, Bloomsbury. Inspired by Virginia Woolf's "One cannot think well, love well or slwwp well if one has not dined well" Kate will be exploring the area and its culinary history as told through the books written about and in Bloomsbury.

In London, home to centuries of novelist and characters alike, there are stories to be discovered in every corner. Intermingling food and fiction provides an intriguing lens through which to examine the city. On this walk explore London's rich culinary and literary history, including war rationing, the Bloomsbury set and Victorian London, with one of London's most acclaimed columnists.

Inevitably we'll be asking how has literature influenced our taste buds, and as a result how has food in literature affected our interpretation of a novel's setting, predominantly that of the city.

Beginning at Persephone Books, a gorgeous bookshops set on the pitcuresque Lamb's Conduit Street, Kate will introduce us into the topic. We'll head off for an hour and a half to return to the bookshop where cake will serve tea and cakes inspired by her research for the walk. Over this conversation will flow!

Ticket includes tea or coffee, cakes and a Persephone notebook.
