Following the excitement of Euro 2016 and Andy Murray’s spectacular Wimbledon triumph, it’s time for the public to play their part as the King’s Cross Sports Day returns.

Lace up your trainers, dig out those sweat bands and get ready for a Sports Day like no other, as King’s Cross brings the spirit of the Rio Olympics to Granary Square on Saturday 6 August.

For those seeking adventure, a 9 metre climbing wall will take centre stage in Granary Square along with a mini version for the younger ones, whilst yoga and Tai Chi classes will provide a calming oasis for those looking for a more relaxed vibe.

Proceedings will be opened with an Olympic flourish, as our Sports Officials carry a torch, complete with music and celebration, signalling the start of the silly games.

Roaming performers and a ribbon dance inspired by rhythm gymnastics will be getting everyone in the mood for a workout, with aerobics instructors carrying their own boombox for impromptu drills.

At the games, glory is just an egg and spoon race away as we get nostalgic, with sack racing, tightrope walking and 3 legged races providing guaranteed laughs and entertainment for the whole family.

The competition will be sure to step up a notch at the King’s Cross Table Tennis Olympics, the perfect place for regulars to prove their skills on the big stage, whilst the fun will continue off dry land, with a range of kayaking games on the Canal.

For those wanting to look the part, the pop up market is the place to be, with limited edition King’s Cross Sports Day kit leggings available from renowned designer Laurie Nouchka and the latest gear from Lulu Lemon and Frame guaranteed to brighten up proceedings. Look out for free giveaways from the likes of Nike, plus medals awarded to winners of the games.

To feed the appetite, there will be food stalls available offering a number of healthy options, and those with a sweet tooth will also be catered for with Ruby Violet providing vitamin enriched sorbets.

Kings Cross Sports Day will be taking place on Saturday 6 August, all day on the Boulevard, Granary Square and the Crossing, from 10am-6pm. Events are completely free, and suitable for all ages and abilities.
