LEE GREEN ARTISTS OPEN THEIR HOMES AND STUDIOS TO SHARE THEIR ART WITH LOCAL RESIDENTS

Artists in South East London will be exhibiting their art in their homes and studios over two weekends this November. Local residents and visitors to Lee Green in South East London will be able to view and purchase a range of art on their local doorstep. The 2016 event takes place on the weekends of the 12th, 13th and 19th, 20th November.

Lee Green Open Studio has been running for seventeen years and this year 48 local artists will be exhibiting their art, including a mixture of up and coming artists as well as Royal Academy trained artists. A broad range of art will be showcased including print makers, photographers, painters, jewelers, sculptors, ceramicists, alongside textile artist, mosaic artists and crafts people.

Lee Green Open Studio is an interesting and stimulating event, it stretches from Micheldever Road to Lee High Road and from Burnt Ash Lane to Hither Green Station. Every artist exhibiting is within walking distance so visitors and residents will be able to wander from one venue to another viewing different artists’ work and in many places will be able to enjoy refreshments and homemade cake.

Visitors to the community art event, will be able to spend time with the local artists, talk about their work, find out about the inspiration behind them and purchase an original piece of art at a reasonable price with no gallery fees. Many artists accept commissions.

David Weekes – Chair of the Lee Green Open Studios committee says: “We started Lee Green Open Studio seventeen years ago when we realised how many artists were living in the area. Many of the artist who take part live within the historic Lee Manor conservation area. We wanted to raise awareness of the artists and art in the area and to encourage interest and participation in local art. Last year we reckon over 6000 people visited, it attracted visitors from across London and we have even had people travel from Holland just to visit Lee Green Open Studios.

David Weekes, adds:- We are looking forward to opening our homes and studios to visitors and local residents and sharing our art with them. We have made sure that everyone exhibiting is within easy walking distance. It’s a wonderful opportunity for local residents and visitors to purchase an original piece of art at artist prices, not gallery prices. There will be something to suit every pocket from gift tags, cards and ceramics to high quality textiles, large art works and sculptures. Leaflets showing all the artists taking part are available from local shops & cafes and online.
