Did you know that Friday 9th December is Christmas Card Day? Symbolising the day the first Christmas card was sent in 1843 by civil servant Sir Henry Cole, this year it's being celebrated by a group of painters from the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists, who will be showcasing their spectacular talents in a live, pop up studio, in the heart of London’s Spitalfields Market.

This worldwide partnership of disabled artists, run by the artists themselves, creates original artworks painted either with the mouth or foot, due to not having the use of their hands. Their paintings are produced into a collection of Christmas cards, greetings cards, wrap and calendars, amongst other items, providing a source of financial security and independence.

This year, five of the artists based in the UK – Rosie Moriarty-Simmonds, Vanessa Haarhoff, Leanne Beetham, Tom Yendell and Andy Baker - will be in situ at Spitalfields Market, known as a hub of arts, crafts and creativity. The pop up studio – situated in front of the Leon restaurant – will feature artists painting live over the lunchtime period (12pm-3pm), alongside a gallery of their previous works. Visitors to the pop up will be able to see these talented artists at work, and embrace the spirit of Christmas by sending a loved one an MFPA Christmas card, free of charge!

Stop by and say hello!
