Monteverdi Selva Morale e Spirituale

La Nuova Music return to Wigmore for Monteverdi’s majestic Selva Morale e Spirituale, set alongside quasi-religious works from L’Orfeo, L’Incoronazione di Poppea, and his eighth book of Madrigals. Even in Monteverdi’s religious music the human is never far – perfectly articulated in Il Combattimento, and the Prologue from L’Orfeo. Psalm settings for the Vespers bookend our recital, with florid displays of intense religious fervour in motets such as Ego Flos Campi, Audi Coelum, Salve Regina and the impossibly operatic telling of the Pianto della Madonna, showing Monteverdi’s genius in the most human and profound manner possible.
