WORLDbytes is an online news channel which tackles social issues. With programmes made by young volunteers learning to film, we regularly feature debates, policy makers and experts as well as showcasing new ideas and light hearted items. This is ‘citizen TV’ and its ethos is don’t shout at the telly, change the message on it.

WORLDbytes regularly offers three day intensive on-the-job film training courses to new volunteers interested in creating alternative news programmes and reports. The training is free for young people aged 16 – 25 who would like to get involved in the charity’s work. No previous skills are required but a keen interest in social issues, politics and challenging ideas are a must as our ‘citizen TV’ programmes prioritise content over style. The next training opportunity with places available takes place on Friday 30th July, Saturday 31st July and Sunday 1st August. The days will be long, roughly 9am to 9pm. To get involved and be part of the crew you must be available for all three days of the course, and also attend a WORLDbytes crew meeting on Monday 26th July at 7.30pm at the WORLDwrite Centre in Hackney. You can apply online at http://www.worldbytes.org/training-booking.html, please note the deadline for applications is Tuesday 22nd July. It is always best to start volunteering straight away so that you can help plan and prepare for the shoots taking place on the course. Active volunteers are always given priority places on these courses; you can apply to come to our next open evening for volunteers via website above.
