Marina Laslo, the Queen of the Russian Romance, returns to the Queen Elizabeth Hall in September to perform an inspiring programme of romances and jazz ballads.

The leading exponent of this genre, the effortlessly charismatic Marina takes to the stage on Tuesday 20th September on a return visit to the South Bank venue.

The performance coincides with the release for the first time of Marina’s five album back catalogue on iTunes.

Marina’s albums represent a journey, both metaphorically and literally. Rooted in her classical training, moving through the traditional music of Russia and on to the jazz of further afield, it has not been a simple path to follow. Marina grew up through the most troubled years of Russia’s past and, despite descending from a long line of Russian nobility, she was forced to flee the country in order to pursue her musical career.

“Confession”, “Classic Revolution”, “Moscow Romance”. “Bewitched” and “Night And Day” track Marina’s path. Her latest offering ‘Night And Day’, produced by multi-million selling Robin Millar (David Gray, Alison Moyet, Sade, Chrissie Hynde) draws together the diverse influences running through Marina’s life. It also features her own interpretations of timeless tracks by the likes of Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and Andy Williams.

Far more than just a recording artist, though, Marina’s live show combines dramatic performance with tender vocals – she captivates her audience. Previous London shows at venues such as Ronnie Scott’s and the Barbican Centre have received rave reviews with The Times describing her as ‘never less than gripping’.

An acclaimed musician with a vast repertoire of classical music, Marina more recently has drawn influences from Cuba and South America to bring an entirely fresh approach to the Romances of her home country.
