Tommys, Ticklers and Tyrants, Oh What a Lovely War explodes onto Cochrane Theatre stage.

The Army is coming to YOUR town ... and they want YOU! So are you prepared to fight for King and country?

"We don't want to lose you, but we think you ought to go."

Joan Littlewood’s famed musical play is an ironic exposé of the atrocities and hypocrisy surrounding World War One, which we explore through symbolic settings, large characters and popular songs of the day.

Street 2 Stage provides the opportunity for young people from diverse backgrounds to experience professional theatre, gaining skills in performance, stage management and design. Committing their summer to this production our young people learn to work as an ensemble with discipline and professionalism.

Artistic Director of The Cochrane Theatre Deirdre Malynn directs this vibrant young cast in this production whose themes, though set in the past speak to us today.

Brighton sea side – the sun is shining and the circus is in town. A parade of patriotism marches forth, war is coming and this is your chance to fight for king and country. So what are you waiting for? Sign up today, war will be over by Christmas! Naïve young men rush to enlist as soldiers only to find the realities of war are a far cry from their romantic ideals of heroism.

This production of Oh what a lovely war will entertain and delight you, horrify and outrage you, tantalize and inspire you! The unforgettable story of devastating slaughter that wiped out a generation of young men is brought to life through ironic musical entertainment.
