Romanian tenor Marius Brenciu opens the 2011/12 Rosenblatt Recitals season with a performance of songs and arias by Gluck, Giordani, Bellini, Mozart, Donizetti, Verdi and Tosti among others.
Brenciu studied at the Bucharest University of Music and made his debut as Don Ottavio in Mozart’s Don Giovanni in 1997. He has won many prizes since then, not least first prize in the 2001 BBC Cardiff ‘Singer of the World’ and ‘Lied’ categories. Brenciu made his US
debut at the Met in 2008 with an overwhelming success in La Rondine, and has also performed in renowned productions such as La Traviata, La Bohème, Macbeth, Simon Boccanegra and L’Elisir d’amore among others. French newspaper Le Monde spoke for many when it recently praised his “clear, light voice, well mastered by the tenor, reminding me of Veriano Lucchetti with more depth, with open sounds but also perfect whispers and mezze voci that suits a deeply moving character.”
