The World Unseen Film Screening

Enlightenment Films and the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund UK are delighted to host a special screening of the award winning film 'A World Unseen' on Tuesday 29th November at South Africa House, Trafalgar Square, starting at 7pm. Tickets are now on sale for this charity screening at just £20 and all proceeds from the sale of the tickets are being donated to NMCF's latest project, which is to build a dedicated children's hospital in South Africa.

Set in South Africa in the 1950s, The World Unseen is a human drama inspired by true stories of the writer/director Shamim Sarif's grandmother's life during a time when apartheid began its treacherous grip on the country.

Free-spirited Amina has broken all the rules of her own conventional Indian community, and the new apartheid-led government, by running a café with Jacob her 'coloured' business partner. When she meets Miriam, a young traditional wife and mother, their unexpected attraction pushes Miriam to question the rules that bind her, when Amina helps Miriam's sister-in-law to hide from the police, a chain of events is set in motion that changes both women forever.

In a system that divides white from black and women from men, what chance is there for an unexpected love to survive?

The film's themes of love, integrity and finding one's own voice strongly echoes the vision of NMCF programmes.

The screening will be followed by a Q & A session which will include Writer/Director Shamim Sarif, Producer Hannan Kattan and Executive Producers Katherine Priestley and Lisa Tchenguiz. We hope you will be able to join us on what is expected to be a wonderful, thought provoking evening.
