The Foundry, Camden is hosting a Pop-Up Cannoli Counter from Saturday 11th to Tuesday 14th February, serving a range of the delicious traditional Sicilian pastries matched with local dessert wines.

Originating in Palermo as a classic Carnival treat, cannoli are made up of irresistibly crunchy pastry curls (or scorze) filled with a rich and airy ricotta cream filling. The history of this delicious dessert dates back as early as the 17th Century where an anonymous poet describes them as ‘the sceptres of all kings’, with ‘no tastier morsel in the world’. They have also been described as a fertility symbol, one legend assigning them to the harem of Caltanissetta.

The Pop-Up Cannoli Counter will serve the traditional Sweet Ricotta filled cannolo, as well as Toasted Pistachio and Orange Blossom. The Foundry’s kitchen will also be serving a more unusual variety of Chocolate Chilli cannolo, using fresh chilli peppers grown in the venue.

The Cannoli Counter will be serving the Sicilian dolce all through the day, with cups of freshly roasted coffee using beans from Camden Coffee House located next door, hand-roasted by George, one of the few independents left in London.

During the evening, guests can enjoy a cannolo matched expertly with an Italian dessert wine, such as the elegant and delicate Gallio Torcolato Breganze 2008 D.O.C., which has hints of honey that complement the rich pastries perfectly (supplied by Zanotto Wines).

And to celebrate the Pop-Up Cannoli Counter, The Foundry and sister venue The Forge, will be hosting a special evening of Cannoli, Cocktails & Casablanca on Saturday 11th February from 5.30pm.

A decadently indulgent event, guests will be treated to a variety of the Sicilian dolce, matched with cocktails from the newly launched menu, which uses fresh herbs and infusions grown in the venue, along with bespoke infusions and homemade marmalades. All enjoyed while watching the 1940’s classic American romantic film, Casablanca with Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, set in the drama of WWII. The perfect night out with the girls on Valentine’s weekend.

And for Valentine’s Day on Tuesday 14th February, The Foundry have prepared a special three course Sicilian extravaganza, featuring the cannoli menu and accompanied with live jazz performance from the Jo Caleb Duo – the sweetest Valentine’s evening.
