In this bicentenary year, you’ll be interested to know that Dickens knew Barnet extremely well. He was well-acquainted with its pubs, and wined and dined in the Red Lion. He set a well-known scene from Oliver Twist on the High Street, and possibly had Barnet Workhouse in mind when he penned one of the most famous scenes in all English literature. Hear about the Dickens connection in this virtual tour, as well as some of the other surprising and scandalous events in Victorian Barnet. Booking required.
