We are continuing our lecture series with the evening talk by Peter Marlow, one of Britain’s leading photojournalists.

Peter Marlow studied psychology at Manchester University, graduating in 1974. He then started his career as an international photojournalist - he joined Magnum Photos in 1980, becoming a full member in 1986.

Despite travelling widely in his early career, Marlow’s major projects have often been concerned with contemporary British life such as his 1993 project Liverpool - Looking out to Sea (Jonathan Cape), the culmination of a six-year project photographing the city, and a book regarded by many as the defining work on Britain under Mrs Thatcher. Marlow spends time with his subjects, alone, with no assistants, often using only one camera, allowing the pictures to evolve rather than directing his subjects.
