The acclaimed Capital Restaurant will be hosting a Rioja wine tasting evening on Monday 21st May from 7pm. Each wine from the Bodegas Roda vineyard will be introduced by winemaker and oenologue, Gonzalo Lainez, and will be expertly paired with one of four courses, with tickets priced at £75 per person. Guests can book tables individually, or are invited to join the club table hosted by Gonzalo. Call 020 7591 1202 or for more information see www.capitalhotel.co.uk

The courses offer an aperitif of La Gitana Manzanilla; an amuse bouche of thin tart of smoked duck breast and caramelised pear accompanied by Bodegas Roda II Reserva 1998 and a starter of black leg chicken, pistachio and wild mushroom ballotine, celeriac remoulade accompanied by Bodegas Roda Reserva 2006 in magnums. The main course, a noisette of lamb, pan-fried foie gras, spring vegetables, truffle and Madeira sauce will be paired with Bodegas Roda I Reserva 1996; and for dessert guests can enjoy a selection of French farmhouse cheeses with Bodegas La Horra Corimbo 2009 (which is being launched in the UK for the first time).

In addition, the Capital Restaurant’s sister eatery, Le Metro Wine Bar and Bistro, located just next door, will be adopting a Spanish theme for the week from 21st May and will feature tapas-style dishes on the specials board including spicy chorizo, gazpacho and padron peppers. The drinks menu will feature a carefully selected Rioja as wine of the week, priced at £22 for the bottle or £5.50 per glass. This can be paired with two ‘small plates’ for just £10 as part of Le Metro’s Mini Bites promotion, available between 6pm and 8pm, Monday to Friday. The bistro will also be featuring an Albarino, priced at £32 per bottle or £8 per glass.

Wine has always been a passion for owner David Levin, whose hotels and restaurants are renowned for their wine cellars. Both restaurants feature a selection of Levin wines available from David’s own vineyard located in the Loire Valley.
