In this sensitive and ground breaking photographic exhibition, photographer Nadia Bettega captures the small actions which make a powerful difference to those people facing the end of life, thereby creating a new space for public reflection on dying.
The initiative is supported by the Arts Council England and the National Council of Palliative. The work is launched in line with Dying Matters Week.
The exhibition will then tour the country during 2012 in public spaces, hospices, hospitals and schools helping to break down the final taboo and British people’s reticence to talk about dying.
The exhibition provides an alternative medium for terminally ill people to communicate their thoughts and feelings at such an intense time. It also provides a positive testimony to individuals who work in a myriad of simple and sensitive ways to support dying people.
The exhibition will also include an audio installation, featuring the writing of palliative care physician Dr Frank Brennan, whose encounters with patients and their families provides a challenging and humbling insight into the care of the dying. These are read by Jot Davis and Daniel Curshen.
