A delicious taster of a new, immersive opera experience.
Edible Opera is an exciting new project designed to draw together the dramatic and sensual experiences of both opera and fine dining for ultimate audience enjoyment – a decadent performance using culinary creations to tell operatic stories and serve the narrative.
The Edible Opera concept draws upon historic traditions of sociable eating during performance to provide an approachable and lively audience environment.
The workshop, at 7pm on Thursday 23rd August at The Cockpit, will explore Mozart’s ‘Don Giovanni’.
Audience members will be invited, as guests of Don Giovanni himself, to delve into his lusty and debauched world and sample tasty excerpts from the piece. These will be combined with opportunities for discussion and questions about the excerpts to help Edible Opera shape the development of the piece into a full-scale performance.
Louise Alder, Martin Lamb and Duncan Rock will perform, accompanied by Genevieve Ellis and directed by Lauren Collins, in an environment created by Hiroko Matsuo. Food will be prepared by chef Pedro Passinhas, who has cooked at ‘The Fat Duck’, ‘Le Gavroche’ and ‘Galvin at Windows’.
Dressing for dinner in ‘feathers and furs’ is certainly encouraged (although not compulsory).
Edible items contain meat, nuts, alcohol and dairy products. For further information and advice, please contact [email protected] or 07905 125925
Only over 18s will be admitted.
