London Orpheus Choir is proud to present the London version of Brahms’ German Requiem, accompanied by piano duet and four unaccompanied Partsongs by Mendelssohn. The Requiem is a perennial favourite with audiences and performers, who are delighted by the passion and beauty of the music. By contrast, Mendelssohn’s songs have a simple but richly-textured elegance.
We will be joined for this exciting concert by two brilliant pianists, Marcus Andrews and Aleksander Szram, who will also play Stravinsky’s ground-breaking The Rite of Spring, scored for four hands on one piano by the composer himself. Debussy played the duet with Stravinsky and called it “a beautiful nightmare.”
