Pick up a penguin, or a cheeky little robin - The Sloane Club hosts a Christmas sale on behalf of the prison charity Fine Cell Work from 5th to 7th December. Come and discover an array of unusual presents, and enjoy a ‘feel good factor’ by supporting the charity’s excellent work in prisons across the UK. All of the delightful products – which include charming decorations, unusual stocking fillers, embroidered cosies, cute keepsakes, quirky doorstops, wall-hangings and piles of cushions – have been hand-sewn by prisoners attending embroidery and needlepoint workshops in 29 UK prisons.
Fine Cell Work is supported by leading designers such as Cath Kidston, Emily Peacock, Celia Birtwell, Daisy de Villeneuve and Tom Dixon who have donated exclusive designs to this worthwhile social enterprise.
Fine Cell Work teaches needlework to prison inmates and sells their products. The earnings give them hope, skills and independence. Stitchers spend an average of twenty hours a week doing embroidery in their cells; it’s a way of life that enables them to serve their time with dignity and purpose. Fine Cell Work is done in 29 prisons and 75% of the stitchers are men. All the classes have waiting lists.
