Want to do something a bit different this half-term? Enjoy being outdoors and getting your hands dirty? Then come and have a go at planting a tree (or two) and help to create a new woodland in the Thames Chase Community Forest this February!
Bonnetts Wood in Upminster is being doubled in size, by restoring a neighbouring former landfill site to create new woodland. The Forestry Commission is inviting local residents to get involved with planting this exciting new woodland, at a Community Tree Planting Day.
No experience or special tools are required, just suitable clothes and waterproofs. Visitors can drop in during the day and will be shown how to plant a tree. Bring the whole family, a picnic and make a day of it! Young visitors (and the young at heart) will be awarded a certificate for taking part.
Car parking will be available on-site at Bonnetts Wood, entering from Gerpins Lane. If you are approaching from Aveley Road, turn into Gerpins Lane, pass the Reuse and Recycling Centre (postcode RM14 2XR); the entrance is through a gate about 20m further along on the right. From there, the planting area is a few minutes walk on surfaced paths across Bonnetts Wood.
