Sydenham’s Kirkdale Village Reveals Its New Identity

The All In London Blog

Hundreds of SE London residents have cast their votes and chosen a new logo for Kirkdale Village, the newly named heart of Sydenham SE26 and Forest Hill, SE23.

Following the phenomenal Mad Hatter’s Easter event on 16th April, votes were counted to decide amongst six short listed logos which were designed and submitted by estate agent Wooster & Stock’s production team. The winning Kirkdale Village logo was chosen with over 40% of the votes and was designed by Stephen Elsworth of Wooster & Stock, who took his inspiration from the fountain in Jews Walk.

Wooster & Stock’s Jenny Holland, co-organiser of the Kirkdale Village launch, commented: “We have been thrilled by everybody’s response to the Kirkdale Village initiative. Hundreds of locals have come together, casting their votes for the new logo, supporting our local businesses and reinstating the unique community spirit that we have here and that so many other areas have lost over the years.”

The new logo, which reflects the curves of the nearby Jews Walk fountain, will be proudly displayed around the rebranded high street over the next few days and will also be on view on the Kirkdale Village Facebook page.

In addition to voting for a preferred logo, residents also offered suggestions about what they want to see introduced in the new Kirkdale Village.

“The majority of voters suggested a butcher, closely followed by a café and a delicatessen. Others opted for the introduction of grocers, florists and restaurants, in particular Thai restaurants, but the most creative suggestions included a gallery, cinema, arts centre, ice cream parlor, pie and mash shop and a farmers’ market,” says Jenny.

After the success of the launch event and the logo vote, the Kirkdale Village team now wants to take the popularity of the village, with businesses and consumers, to new levels.

“There is more to come,” adds Jenny Holland. “We intend to do another local event in the summer and we will soon be decorating the village with hanging baskets and Chelsea boxes which will make it even lovelier place to live and work.”
