Summer festivals for kids – in East (Lollibop) and West (Bounce) London

On 10th-11th August at The Old Deer Park in Richmond, there’s Bounce Festival. I’ve not been to this one before but it looks interesting – circus, animals (sheep feature), juggling, cooking for the really little ones and science show (including make your own rocket), camping, assault course, cycling, comedy club, beat boxing and street dancing for the older kids.

It’s designed for kids up to 12 years old and their families although there’s a play area for the under 4s – who go free. CITV and Nickleodeon presenter Anna Williamson will be hosting the Bounce Stage on both Saturday and Sunday. A family of four ticket costs £51 but once you are in all the activities are free. It’s supported by Metro newspaper and the Rugby Football Union at nearby Twickenham.

The following weekend (16th-18th August) is LolliBop which has now moved east to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford. I went along to this one a few years back when it was in Regent’s Park. I remember the day well. It absolutely poured with rain on that occasion but nothing deterred the kids from having a thoroughly good time. There was so much on offer – inflatables, storytelling, rides, music tents, crafts, face painting, climbing frames to name but a few – that there was not a single moment without something exciting happening.

There’s a packed programme of activities – I don’t think you’d manage to see it all so plan your day carefully. A few highlights: Peppa Pig, Rastamouse (Friday only), Mr Men and Science Museum Learning and an 8 foot robot. There’s a big stage, a discover zone, a village green and a special zone for the under 3s, chill out picnic areas as well as a beach zone on the river Lea. Partners include Tesco and Fun Kids Radio.

All the early bird tickets have sold out. Individual entry price is £23.50 (advanced) or £28 and a family of four ticket is £92 (advanced) or £110. Under 12 months go free.
