Kids in London – “My underpants rule” book to keep kids safe from sexual predators

KimT's London for Kids Blog

With all the media coverage of the trials of sexual predators, parents may be worried about how best to alert their children to the possible danger without causing unnecessary alarm on such a delicate subject.

A former Police officer from Teddington in Surrey and her husband (Kate and Rod Power) have written a short children’s book called “My underpants rule” which tackles the topic in an appropriate way and empowers children to speak up. It is designed for children from four to eight years old.

The book uses rhymes, scenarios and exercises to get the point across and takes care to explain the difference between essential care from parents or medical professionals or accidental touch when playing and inappropriate behaviour.

The book is available from Amazon for £6.99 and you can obtain a personalised version for your child for £7.99.

When my kids were little, there were some books I found invaluable to help deal with tricky subjects – for example, - Babette Cole’s “Mummy laid an egg” (where do babies come from) and “Two of everything” (dealing with divorce) are brilliant.
