Date for the Diary: Dior and I

Love London

Fans of a fashion documentary take note; later this month the hotly-anticipated Dior and I arrives in cinemas, taking you behind the scenes of Raf Simons first haute couture collection for Christian Dior in the spring of 2012.

With unprecedented behind the scenes access, the film documents the mere eight weeks that Simons had to complete his debut collection. Revealing the inner workings of the design house, from the creative processes of its artistic director to the tireless seamstresses of the atelier, the film explores the personal bonds that form between the collaborators, their work, and the legacy of Christian Dior.

Following the much publicised departure of John Galliano in the spring of 2011, the whisperings of who would take up tenure at the helm of Dior were rife. The announcement of Simons filling the position was met with surprise by many in the industry, but in the last three years the Belgian has succeeded in bringing a new era of elegance to the French fashion house.

Despite having a penchant for a distinctly more minimalist approach than his overtly theatrical predecessor, not to mention the fact that at the time he had also never before worked in haute couture, Simons turned around his debut collection in mere weeks as opposed to the normal five or six months. From the inner workings of the atelier to the final moments before the catwalk lights go up, Dior and I is a must see.

Showing from March 27th at cinemas across London, including the Curzon Mayfair. Visit www.curzoncinemas.com for more information and to book.
