Dog-friendly Richmond Hill Bakery

Dogs in London - The London Dog Blog

It was time for a catch-up chat with my good friend who is the owner of the gorgeous Maltese dog Muffin as Alfie the Chihuahua was keen to re-connect. But where to go on a grey, cold Saturday? We didn’t want to be banished outside.

So we ventured into Richmond and found the delightful Richmond Hill Bakery on Friars Stile Road. To say the place is dog-friendly is an understatement – they are positively welcomed with open arms. The dogs received more attention than the locals – one of whom was a famous TV actress.

The café goes quite a way into the building and its décor is bright and homely with all sorts of interesting displays to catch your eye.

I settled into the spacious window seat with Alfie and Muffin (who appreciated the cushions) while my companion went to purchase coffee and cakes. And what a selection of cakes! There’s a large glass case with an array of amazing confections as well as baskets of croissants and other sweet treats.

My companion opted for a vaguely health-conscious fruit tart (what a large portion!) and I plumped for a generous slice of gluten-free chocolate and hazelnut cake. It was moist and delicious. The cappuccino was frothy, hot and excellent and served in Richmond Hill Bakery mugs.

I’d taken some treats along to avoid the dogs feeling left out but they had both snuggled down and decided to snooze while other dogs and their owners pottered in and out.

And with Richmond Park just a short walk away, it’s a great location for an afternoon walk.
