About Viaduct Tavern
This pub was built in 1869 and is named after the Holborn Viaduct. Its appearance is deceptive because although it has quite a large curved frontage, it is actually fairly small inside. Most of its original decoration has survived, from the mirrors and decorated glass to the three paintings of wistful maidens. It is built on the site of Newgate Prison and its cellars are the former cells. It serves bar food between midday and 8pm.
