Established in 1759, One Tun serves a selection of beers, wines, spirits and fine ales. They also serve a variety of Thai dishes and provide a takeaway facility. A selection of entertainment is provided including Sky TV and darts. You are advised to phone for details about private parties.
Throughout the sixties I worked for the Bradbury Agnew Press, situated in a building down near the bottom of Saffron Hill. A whole gang of us regularly went to the One Tun every Friday (late). We were well-paid printers and we liked to cause havoc by offering a £20 note each time a round was ordered (the average weekly wage for the time was around £20) The landlord had a minor bird in the bar and it was primed to wolf-whistle and call out:"What a smasher!" whenever a female entered. It also regularly called out: "Where's Toby?" (the pub cat) A delightful little irish girl worked behind the bar. Our One Tun visits were the highlight of our long, hard-working week.
